What is Bancontact?
Bancontact, formally known as Payconiq by Bancontact allows customers in Belgium to pay for their transfer via their own bank.
Instead of arranging payment with your bank once your transfer's confirmed, you'll be connected to your bank. This means that you can approve payment in your online or mobile banking app securely and in just a few steps.
How do I pay with Bancontact?
- Start your transfer and choose Bancontact as your payment method.
- Add your recipient details.
- Review the transfer and tap Confirm and send.
- Tap Continue to pay from your bank and choose your bank.
- Log in securely to your bank to authorise the payment. Your login details are never shared with us.
What happens next?
- On the Xe app (personal accounts only): your banking app opens automatically.
- On Xe.com: a new tab opens. Please allow pop-ups or scan the QR code to open your mobile banking app.
Once approved, you’ll return to Xe, where you can track your transfer or set up your next one.
How long will my transfer take if I pay with Bancontact?
When you pay with Bancontact, your payment will typically reach us straight away — significantly faster than traditional bank transfers.
However, since processing times can vary between banks, it's best to allow up to 3 working days for your payment to reach us.
We'll send your payment to your recipient when we receive it. The length of time it takes to get to your recipient depends on different things, including where they live, the delivery method you chose and the currency you're sending. Learn more.
Limits when paying with Bancontact
Your bank limits how much you can send in a single transfer online, and we can't control this. Exceeding your limit is one of the most common reasons that payments fail.
Limits vary but are usually between £5,000 and £20,000 (or local equivalent) per transfer. Many banks will also limit how much you can send per day. Check your bank's website for your limit.
